I Stitched!

Image
Something about this series really appeals to me. I just love the look of chalkboards but they are so messy. This way I get the chalkboard but not the mess! I have an idea for my finish using this little chalkboard I found at Wal-Mart. I think with a bit of Briwax and some ribbon it will be cute. I just hope it turns out like the picture in my head. Stay tuned!

Three more sleeps...

...and a day and a half of work.  Yes, friends it is almost here.  Are you ready?  I think I am.  The mail brought some delightful surprises this week.  Carol sent this wonderful PS Santa ornament, cardinal creamer, chocolates,  and toy shoppe chart.  Isn't that ornament just perfection?  And you all know I just love that cardinal creamer! From Norma I received this gorgeous mixed media ornament.  Isn't that little angel so sweet? And Vera sent me this wonderful package of goodies - Christmas socks, chocolate, face wipes, and a wonderful cardinal tin.   Love it all! Thank you Carol, Norma, and Vera for making me feel so special.  :o) Some of you may remember my little gift designs from Christmas last year.  Robin in Virginia sent me these pictures of her finishes of them. Didn't she do a great job on them?  Thank you Robin for sharing your pictures.  I am so happy you enj...

Just In Time...

...for Valentine's Day! What do you think?  I wanted to keep the finish simple and make it look more primitive.  I used Briwax to stain the little chalkboard and used the finishing technique suggested by Hands On Design.  I added a tiny piece of the velcro to the top of the chalkboard so I can fashion  different embellishments to suit each month's design.  For this one I used a mother of pearl heart, a pink seed bead, and a bit of Victorian Motto's hand dyed rick rack.  I really like it and have started stitching the January design.  Crossing my fingers and hoping my elbow continues to behave. We took another quick trip to the beach as a family member was having surgery Monday.  The temperature was in the 70's - really strange for February here.  We took advantage of the beautiful weather and headed down to Kure Beach Pier to watch the sunrise. This little guy didn't seem to mind sharing his perch with us! I would like to wis...

Stitching and Stuff

Hello friends and folk!  It has been a beautiful fall week here in NC.  The leaves are turning and falling (much to my dismay...I do not like raking leaves) and there is a nip in the air.  I have managed to keep up with Paulette's Mystery Sampler: The bible in this picture belonged to my mother.  It was given to her by my grandmother in 1943. Wow!  That means it is at least 70 years old.  And for whatever reason, my mother had this guy hiding within the pages. He was taped to something once as he still has his sticky feet!  I seem to remember Mom having these Santas taped on the doors when I was a kid.  When Nan of  Threadwork Primitives announced her new winter design, I didn't waste any time ordering it and getting started.  Here's my progress thus far: I went to DogFest last Sunday and picked up a Halloween bandanna for Lola.  Isn't this fabric fabulous?  It slides right onto her collar....

Four More Sleeps

Image
Hello friends!  Only 4 more sleeps until Christmas - are you finished with all your preparations?  I am and I plan to relax this weekend and perhaps sneak in some quality stitching time. I want to share with you a couple of delightful gifts I received in the mail this week. First from Faye this sweetest of ornaments: Isn't this just the sweetest little thing?!  And it is finished to perfection.  Thank you so much Faye, a true treasure to add to my tree. And this package arrived from dear Vera: Do you see those tiny wool baskets?  She knits and felts those herself.  Cute as a button they are.  She also treated me with some stitching needfuls - wonderful scissors, needles, a charm and oh look!   A cardinal tin to hold it all.  Thank you so much my friend. I finished up what will be my last 2 Christmas ornaments this year. This is my own design finished into a little pillow ornament.  Some of you may rec...

Let It Snow!

Image
Finished just in time for the 6 inches of snow we had here in NC last night.  I used a rusty snowflake charm (thank you Carol!) and some bits of ribbon and pom pom trim for the accents. Now I know 6 inches of snow isn't much for most of you but it is a big deal here in NC.  The hospital was closed today so I was able to have some fun with the animals in the snow.  Needless to say, neither of them were amused!

Frosty The Snowman...

Was a jolly happy soul! He resides in my repurposed coal bucket filled with some faux seasonal greens. He sports a dandy homespun scarf and chenille trimmed mittens to keep him warm and rusty jinglers on his jaunty top hat. A couple of friends came along to keep him company. And his boots with their striped laces keep his toes toasty. He's stained and distressed though you can't tell that from the pictures. We hope you and your family had a jolly, happy Thanksgiving!

Where Have I Been?

Hello friends and folk!  I hope there are still some of you out there reading this.  I apologize for disappearing but he loss of Lola and my DH's declining health have just knocked the wind out of my sails.  Our house has been so empty without Lola here.  I haven't been doing much sewing or stitching but we did acquire a new family member. Introducing Betty!  Betty is a 3-4 year old Boxer that we adopted from Blue Ridge Boxer Rescue.  She was found running the streets in Darlington, SC and spent almost a month in the pound there before she was rescued.  She has been living with a foster family in Georgia since late October.   She was heartworm positive so she had to have those treated before she could be adopted. We met her foster parents in Charlotte last Sunday to bring her to her forever home with us.  Needless to say we have had quite a busy week getting to know each other.  She is remarkably calm for a Boxer but she ...
